Junior Golf Round-Up - May 2026

Woodbridge Golf Sixes Team at Seckford GC - 23rd May 2026

It’s been quite a month for junior golf in our little sphere! May has seen plenty of achievements, new experiences, and great progress across our coaching programmes.

Woodbridge Golf Club Makes Golf Sixes League Debut

One of the highlights of the month was seeing Woodbridge Golf Club enter a team into the Golf Sixes League for the very first time. A project Charley and I have been working on for several months - very exciting to finally get underway!

Our opening fixture took place at Seckford Golf Club on Saturday 23rd May in very warm conditions. We fielded a relatively young and inexperienced team compared to the other five clubs in the league, but the players rose to the challenge brilliantly. Despite giving away plenty in terms of experience to the opposition, our team performed exceptionally well and secured a very impressive 4th place finish.

Most importantly, the players represented Woodbridge superbly, showcasing wonderful communication and teamwork, and gained valuable competitive playing experience too.

We're delighted to be hosting the next Golf Sixes fixture at Woodbridge this weekend and look forward to welcoming the other clubs for another fantastic day of junior golf.

Success at the Woodbridge Junior Open

Congratulations to David Coffey, who produced a fantastic performance to win the Woodbridge Junior Open on Sunday 17th May.

There was a memorable moment when David handed in his scorecard after the round. When I asked how he had played, he casually replied, "It was alright" – a slight understatement considering he had just returned a superb net 65 to take the title!

To make it an even better day for the Coffey family, David's brother claimed the Gross Prize with a level-par 70, ensuring a clean sweep of the major honours.

David's recent progress has been particularly impressive. During May alone, his handicap has fallen from 15.2 to 12.8, a reflection of the hard work he has been putting into both his practice and competition golf. It's been fantastic to see his development continue throughout the season.

Suffolk Golf Academy Update

At Suffolk Golf Academy, based at Stonham Barns, we recently completed the first block of our Monday junior group coaching programme.

One of the most rewarding aspects of coaching is watching players develop their skills and confidence over time, and it has been great to see the progress made by everyone involved during the sessions.

The month finished with a Junior Golf Camp delivered alongside fellow Suffolk Golf Academy PGA Professional Rob Pritchard on Friday 29th May. Fourteen juniors took part in a full day of activities, including outdoor coaching games, indoor simulator sessions, and time out on the golf course putting their skills into practice.

The camp provided a fantastic mix of learning, competition, and fun, and it was great to see so many young golfers enjoying the game and developing their skills in a positive environment.
